Somewhere Over the Rainbow

I take my dog, Rocky, to the dog park most mornings.  We arrive when it’s dark and daylight is just beginning to break.  Knowing it won’t be long before I take his leash off, Rocky pulls with excited anticipation as we get closer to our spot.  Once there, I release him and he runs free while I take in the quiet and the view.  The sun begins to rise and it’s beautiful. For me and my best boy, it’s the happiest time of our day.

Recently, the happiest time of our day turned magical.  See below:

I don’t think the picture does justice to the rainbow’s vibrancy, but imagine the brightest most electric colored neon lights arching across the sky and you’ll get close to seeing what I saw.  It was magnificent.  If you look closely, you’ll see another rainbow forming just above the original.  This was the cherry on top of our 3.5 years of dog park mornings; it was so captivating.  I thought immediately of this being a New Year and the hopefulness that comes with starting fresh.  And, of course, I thought about the pot of gold on the other side…and these words as the golden nuggets awaiting all of us:

“May your coming year be
filled with magic and
dreams and good
madness.  I hope you read
some fine books and kiss
someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and
don’t forget to make some
art - write or draw or build
or sing or live as only you
can.  And I hope,
somewhere in the next
year, you surprise
yourself”
(Neil Gaiman)

Happy New Year!
