What is the difference between therapy and Coaching?

The short answer is that therapy focuses more on why certain behavioral patterns occur and coaching focuses more on how to work toward specific goals. For more information about the differences between therapy and coaching, please click here.

What can therapy do for me?

Having a safe space to share your concerns and feel supported in expressing them is often a meaningful experience in and of itself. Beyond that, the care, compassion and confidentiality that a trusted listener provides lays the foundation for self-exploration, goal-setting, enhanced communication skills, and healthier ways of coping with internal and external stresses. No issue is too big or too small for therapy to have a positive and lasting impact.

What happens in a therapy session?

In general, sessions last 60 minutes and we will discuss concerns that are having the greatest impact on your life and well-being. Therapy is most effective when you come into the process with an honest, open, and willing attitude and actively participate in the work, which can include outside assignments such as reading a relevant book, keeping a journal, or engaging in a creative exercise.

How often will I need to come to therapy?

Different factors such as the types of issues being addressed, your schedule, and the availability of funds all influence the frequency of our meetings. In the beginning stages of therapy, weekly sessions are recommended. In cases of extreme distress, I may recommend that we meet more than once per week until the crisis is managed and we determine that you’re better able to handle more time between sessions. In the case of limited time and/or available funds, we will work together to establish a therapy schedule that is both productive and affordable within the context of your life.

How do I find the right therapist?

This is a great question and a tough one to answer because the “right” therapist is a very personal choice. Getting a feel for someone’s personality style and therapeutic approach can be a helpful first step. If you have questions about teletherapy or any other logistics regarding my practice, I welcome you to schedule a complimentary 15 minute phone consultation.

Do you take insurance?

I am not an in-network provider for any insurance panel. For therapy services, I will provide a receipt (known as a Superbill) upon request. You can submit this receipt with your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. Coaching is not reimbursable through most insurance companies.
