Shout Out to Houston
Dear Houston,Having lived in your city the longest I’ve ever lived anywhere, it’s a strange thing to be looking from the outside in at all that you’re going through in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey…and not be there. I can only imagine what you’re experiencing firsthand as pictures and news coverage can only convey so much. I can’t help but be grateful I’m not there for all of this and, at the same time, I’m sorry to be as removed as I am from something that will surely deepen your resolve as a community, your appreciation for the health of your city, and the commitment you’ve shown to protect and care for each other - family, friends, and strangers, alike. In the face of horrific adversity, you’re showing the world what it looks like to join together…to work for the greater good and to show up with what matters most: love. Never has our nation needed an example of humanity at its best more than now. I’m so sorry Harvey called upon all of you to have to remind us of this lesson, but I know you, Houston, and you will find your way through the rain and the devastation just as you have before. My prayers and love to you. Always.
