Hello Fun!
If you’re at all familiar with Brene Brown’s work and research, you’re probably familiar with her 10 Guideposts for Wholehearted Living. No worries if this doesn’t ring a bell; you can find them here: https://brenebrown.com/resources/ten-guideposts-for-wholehearted-living
Today, I want to highlight guidepost #10:
Cultivating laughter, song, and dance by letting go of
“cool” and always in control
When is the last time you had F-U-N? The kind of fun that includes belly laughing, singing out loud, dancing in the kitchen, and being completely in the moment, experiencing nothing but the sheer joy of being alive? If you have to think about your answer for more than the time it takes to read this sentence, your fun tank is due for a refill. I speak from experience. It wasn’t until I had the kind of fun described above that I realized how long for fun I’d been…for years. And then when fun found me, I couldn’t believe that I’d lived without it for so long. It’s amazing - and heartbreaking - what we’ll adapt to when we get used to something that isn’t great, but isn’t terrible either.
This instruction to go have some fun feels especially important in the midst of so much bad news circulating our world, infiltrating our minds, and dampening our spirits. We all need a break. As with anything, best to regularly take inventory of how much life giving energy you have coming in - otherwise, you’ll sputter out before you realize you were running dry. And, I promise you, that’s not a fun place to be.
