Chin Up

Some businesses have busier seasons than others and the mental health world is no exception.  Come holiday time, for example, calls to help with loneliness, grief, and difficult family dynamics surge.  This year being an election year, the escalation for support came a bit earlier.  To most, I don’t think that comes as a shock; the divisiveness and contention leading up to November 5 was as ubiquitous as the air we breathe.  Naturally, for those who’s candidate didn’t win, the emotional ripple effects are coursing through communities, families, friendships, and work spaces at varying intensities.  My job is to help alleviate the impassioned acuity into something that feels manageable, respectful, and life giving.  To that end, I’ve gathered a couple of resources that I hope will offer perspective whether you’re reeling from the election or something else that has disquieted you.

The first is a brief video clip taken from the movie “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse” (adapted from the book by Charlie Mackesy).  It’s a beautiful story and I encourage you to watch the whole 5:07 clip, but if you only have a minute, fast forward to 1:12 and listen until the 2:00 mark.  There’s treasure filled wisdom in those 48 seconds.

Next, the message below recently came across my radar.  There’s potency in its simplicity.  Take a moment to breathe it in:

You woke up today.
That means it’s another day you get to:
Feel joy
Keep healing
Deepen presence
Tell people you love them

Find the gift
It’s there
