Inside Voices

Years ago, one of my clients gifted me with a book titled “Your Daily Rock: A Daybook of Touchstones for Busy Lives” by Patti Digh.  Inside, there’s a short meditation for every day of the year followed by two reflection prompts, one for morning and another for evening.  The goal is to cultivate a more mindful and intentional approach to the day.  Like anything else of this ilk, some messages resonate more than others depending on what’s happening in the context of your own life.  The other day, feeling restless and seeking clarity, I was reminded of how great it feels when the message of the day coincides with what I am most needing to hear.  That kind of synchronicity, to me, feels Divine; an extra assurance that the Universe really does have our back.  I hope by sharing the wisdom that helped me out of my angsty rut, you’ll be better able to help yourself out of yours:

“You know the answer. Some days it really doesn’t feel that way.  It seems like everyone else knows, but you don’t.  Some days it’s really easy to doubt yourself, to wonder where to look for answers.  Some days it’s too easy to ask “why” you feel a certain way - asking “why” can invalidate the fact that you do feel that way.  Some days it feels like you need to travel to Oz to find what you’re looking for.  But you don’t.  All right there, inside you.  Be still long enough to hear what your heart has to say.

Then, the prompts for the day:

Morning: What is the question?

Evening: What do you know that you don’t allow yourself to fully know?”
